Low
C'mon
Composed of new material written on and off the road, Low and the 10-song set of Low and "C'mon" was recorded in a former a former Catholic church aka Sacred Heart Studio (where the band created created "Trust" back in 2002). Sparhawk says Low deliberately seeks out circumstances that generate challenges and serendipities that throw them out of familiar patterns. 'We like to work in situations that have a character of their own, whether it's the time period or the person we're working with. In most cases, the space sets the tone." With its jangly guitars and sweet vocal harmonies, opener 'Try To Sleep' isn't the only track to show affinity with The Birds and 80s paisley underground artists like Green On Red and Rain Parade, but sets the tone of the album: Warmer, fuller and more contemplative. While "Drums And Guns" (2007) railed against the Iraq war, "C'mon" feels like a plea for humanity, decency and reason to a world gone mad. Sparhawk agrees with this assessment. "The last few albums reached for something that was far away from us. This album, on the other hand, feels like, 'Alright, forget it. I'm looking you right in the eye now and we have to figure out what happens in the next moment, together, as human beings."
