Mac Demarco
Rock And Roll Nightclub
Mac DeMarco, formerly of Makeout Videotape, is the antithesis of the stereotypical singer-songwriter. He disregards the seriously somber moments and replaces them with whimsical and youthful spontaneity, while retaining the endearing and subtle comments that exude his familiarity.
Shortly after leaving his Edmonton garage for Vancouver, he embarked on a North American tour, joining fellow Canadians Japandroids on a grand journey of enlightenment and alcoholic debauchery. DeMarco is a quirky bird with a penchant for occult imagery, nudity and social satire. But his most impressive quality is his undeniable and instinctive ability to compose magical pop sounds, which he probably refers to as "jizz jazz".
His dusty jams have earned him accolades as numerous as his songwriting skills; his sound invites comparisons, but in a nomadic way that doesn't reveal a clear provenance. DeMarco's debut solo EP, titled "Rock And Roll Night Club," will wander into the great unknown, accompanied by Captured Tracks, DeMarco's inner Elvis in tow.
