"Everything Is Alive," the 5th album from Slowdive, is exactly what the title suggests: an exploration of the dazzling nature of life and life's universal touch points. While there are parts of this album that could fit seamlessly into the atmospheric quality of "Pygmalion" (1995), "Everything Is Alive" also manages to push the boundaries of what came before it.

Exciting psychedelic soundscapes, pulsating '80s electronic elements and John Cale-inspired journeys make the album seem tailor-made for 2023 and beyond. For a genre often considered ambivalent, Slowdive show here that they are the masters of their craft by pushing it outward beyond the singular; the end result is a record that feels as emotional and cathartic as it is hopeful.
