Music for the cinema in your head: Welcome to the cinematic pop world of Annie Clark!
in 2007, Texan Annie Clark released her soulful debut "Marry Me" as St. Vincent, whose mature arrangements and elegant lyrics earned much acclaim. The seductive "Actor" begins where the first album leaves off: the arrangements are wilder, the songwriting bolder and Clark's performance even more confident and inspired. She immersed herself in some of her favorite movies - "Badlands," "Pierrot le Fou," "The Wizard Of Oz," "Stardust Memories" - and starts the songs as if they were film scores, then builds an independent song structure and moves the lyrics to center stage. The resulting eleven songs are as cinematic as pop songs can get. Clark, who has worked with Glenn Branca, Polyphonic Spree and Sufjan Stevens, sings and plays guitar, bass and keyboard. She is supported by Hideaki Aomori (Sufjan Stevens) and Alex Sopp (Björk, Philip Glass) on woodwinds and McKenzie Smith and Paul Alexander (Midlake) on drums, among others.
