Waxahatchee
Tigers Blood
On their new album "Tigers Blood", Waxahatchee continue on the path of their successful predecessor.
Behind the project is singer-songwriter Katie Crutchfield, who grew up near Waxahatchee Creek in Alabama. Originally, the 35-year-old ran riot under this name in sometimes noisy indie folk and indie rock. On her groundbreaking last album "Saint Cloud", however, Waxahatchee's sound clearly shifted towards alternative country and Americana. In return, the musician was showered with euphoric reviews and placings in annual best lists.
This could have been a heavy burden for "Tigers Blood", but in the magical hands of Crutchfield it becomes the next success story. "Right Back To It", the album's first single, is a relaxed country ballad to melt away to. Perfectly rounded off by MJ Lenderman from Wednesday, who can be heard on his electric guitar throughout the album. Single number two called "Bored" - an energetic country-rock stomper to sing along to - represents the other end of the scale. Between these poles, the album captivates throughout with fantastic songwriting and Waxahatchee's unique voice.
As on the previous album, producer Brad Cook is responsible for the sound. The perfect, atmospheric and warm sound was once again created at Sonic Ranch Studios in Texas.
