"Placenta" is the fourth collection of Carlos Niño & Friends music released on International Anthem in the last four years, characterized by a high level of imagination and collaboration. It is also the first new music from Carlos Niño & Friends following the release of André 3000's New Blue Sun in November 2023 - an album Carlos co-produced with André, while co-writing, co-performing and co-mixing every song.

"Placenta" is announced in April 2024, a date chosen because it is the first solar return of Moss Niño (a new being in human form whose earthly parents are Carlos and his partner Annelise). Their experiences of pregnancy, labor and birth were very poignant for Carlos. When he became a father again (a full 24 years after the birth of Azul Niño, who has become a regular artistic collaborator of Carlos), he felt totally inspired to make these recordings, and that's why it's perhaps the most conceptually grounded Carlos Niño & Friends album we've presented to date - fully connected to the spirit of family, birth and "how we got here".
