Irreversible Entanglements will release their new studio album in 2021. "Open The Gates" is the follow-up to "Irreversible Entanglements" (2017) and "Who Sent You?" (2019) and thus already the third studio work of the free jazz band from Philadelphia, New York and Washington DC, consisting of Camae Ayewa aka Moor Mother (voice, synthesizer), Keir Neuringer (saxophone, synthesizer, drums), Aquiles Navarro (trumpet, synthesizer), Luke Stewart (double bass, bass guitar) and Tcheser Holmes (drums, percussion).
Irreversible Entanglements recorded seven tracks for "Open The Gates" at Rittenhouse Soundworks Studio in Philadelphia on just one dayg, January 5, 2021. It is their third full length album, but their first double LP length album and clocks in at 73 minutes of playing time. The album was mixed at International Anthem Studios in Philadelphia and mastered at Elysian Masters in Los Angeles.
In a way, the album title says it all, as the band ventures beyond their previous musical boundaries here, supplementing their raw, organic punk-jazz sound with their first experiments with electronics and synthesizers. "The agit-jazz heard here draws from a broader sonic vocabulary than on previous excursions, and is simultaneously pre- and post-apocalyptic as the bass lurches in a trance loop, the horns play in track grooves like poltergeists in the streets, the poetry cascades like a warrior call at a satsang, and the drums pulse both wildly and sophisticatedly with uhuru heart cadence," reads an excerpt from the liner notes.
How that sounds, Irreversible Entanglements revealed in August with the first single, the title track "Open The Gates". The album can be pre-ordered now, as CD, as classic black double LP and as double LP on limited Sands Of Time vinyl.
