Bob Marley & The Wailers
Uprising
Uprising, released in 1980, is Bob Marley’s final studio album and reflects his deep spiritual and political convictions. With anthems like "Redemption Song" and "Could You Be Loved," the album blends reggae rhythms with Marley's message of freedom, love, and social justice. It stands as a poignant farewell from the legendary artist, encapsulating his hope for global unity and peace.
Recorded at Dynamic's studio in a desolate industrial estate near Trench Town, Uprising was the band's tenth album for Island Records and was produced by Marley and the Wailers under the firm guidance of Chris Blackwell. When Marley first presented Blackwell with the songs he wanted to put on the album, Blackwell advised him to add a few uptempo numbers to balance the many slow and serious songs. Marley obliged with "Could You Be Loved" - which became the album's biggest hit - and "Coming In From The Cold," an upbeat, optimistic tune that was chosen as the opening track.
