Laurel Aitken, who was born in Cuba in 1927 and died in 2005, is, along with Desmond Dekker and Prince Buster, the world's most famous star of Jamaican ska and is often revered as the "Godfather" of the genre

Despite his exhausting pioneering work in the 60s, Aitken, still over 70, continued to record new music, including in 1999 for the Madrid-based genre label Liquidator, where the Spanish-language album "En Español" was recorded together with the local backing band Skarlatines. Aitken had already sung mento, calypso, jazz and Cuban songs - in Spanish of course - in front of hotel guests in his Cuban homeland in the early fifties. His well-known ska songs like "Sally Brown" or "Skinhead Train", on the other hand, he sang in English

With "En Español" he presented for the first time a selection of his greatest hits in his Spanish mother tongue. For the 20th anniversary, this album is finally available again as a vinyl record in a refined version. This is Latin Ska!
