With their most versatile album, "Down On The Upside," Soundgarden broke new ground without losing their trademark aggressiveness.

After "Badmotorfinger" and "Superunknown," Soundgarden's fifth album, "Down On The Upside," was often unfairly overlooked, despite entering the Billboard charts at No. 2 and selling 200,000 copies in its first week. In retrospect, however, Down On The Upside is a strong work from a band that was at a crossroads, despite the changing trends of the time (the grunge movement had peaked in 1996).
