The Helioconetrics
A World Of Masks LP
Madlib is one of their biggest fans: The Heliocentrics are a music collective from London led by drummer Malcolm Catto, who is more than indifferent to genres and style boundaries
Since the band's first appearance on DJ Shadow's album "The Outsider" in 2006, the British have produced a whole series of sensational, lengthy and Sunra-inspired releases, spinning a close-meshed and complex web of funk, jazz, hip-hop, psychedelic, krautrock, electronica and afrobeat. This resulted in various collaborations with heavyweights such as Mulatu Astatke or Gaslamp Killer
Like previous works, "A World Of Masks" was recorded in the band's own vintage studio, the Quatermass Sound Lab, in East London. Strictly analog, of course. For the first time the Slovakian singer Barbora Patkova was part of the band, which gave the sound of the rhythm and groove hydra, which is striving in all directions anyway, a completely different sound - so far the Heliocentrics acted more or less as an instrumental group.
