Editors have never been a band that stagnates. They have expanded and realigned their sound on each of their previous albums. But they have probably never taken such a big step as they have now with "EBM".

New member Benjamin John Power probably plays a big part in the fact that the nine new songs by the band from Birmingham come out of the speakers as technoid and electronically pounding as never before. Editors and Power have been working together for a while, but in the run-up to the new album he was officially declared the sixth member of the band. What's more, the album title "EBM" stands for Editors & Blanck Mass (the name of Power's solo electro project).

The addition of Power to the band meant that, for the first time, the song structures no longer came from frontman Tom Smith. He and other band members Justin Lockey, Elliott Williams, Russell Leetch and Ed Lay were given files to tinker with in the studio when they finally got back together. "Ben was certainly an adrenaline rush in our creative process," says Tom. "The songs are so immediate and direct."

Of course, "EBM" must also be understood as a reference to the electronic body music of the 80s. Songs like "Vibe" or "Karma Climb" are clearly influenced by this trend, but remain recognizable as Editors songs at all times.
