Music for Torching, released in 1955, finds Billie Holiday in an intimate small-group setting performing a set of torch songs and standards. Her voice, more weathered than in her youth, brings deep emotional truth to every lyric, supported by sympathetic jazz musicians. It's a late-night, smoky record full of heartbreak and longing. A treasured part of her 1950s catalogue and essential for fans of classic jazz vocals.
