A classic celebrates its birthday
In February 2010, legendary and now deceased musician, poet and author Gil Scott-Heron released his thirteenth and final studio album. "I'm New Here" was Scott-Heron's first album in thirteen years. It was, and is, an album that reveals something unexpected at every turn; an album that pushed Scott Heron to push the boundaries, explore and test as he always had; always looking forward, still challenging conventions and expectations

In celebration of the tenth anniversary of the release of "I'm New Here," XL Recordings is releasing a unique reinterpretation of the album by renowned Chicago musician Makaya McCraven. Known and respected as a musician, drummer, beatmaker and producer, McCraven is widely regarded as one of the most exciting and original figures in modern jazz thanks to a series of records for Chicago label International Anthem that simultaneously defy and redefine the genre

"We're New Again" was recorded and produced in his Chicago home studio with a variety of musicians - McCraven here fuses improvised live musicality and electronic sample-based parts with recordings of Gil Scott-Heron's distinctive vocals. The resulting record is a sonically rich, highly original and deeply respectful companion piece to Scott-Heron and Russell's original work, and represents the latest stage in the evolution of a record that was previously reimagined by Jamie xx on 2011's "We're New Here."
