"Halo" is Juana Molina's seventh album. It follows the experimental path that the singer and guitarist first trod so impressively many years ago. The twelve tracks on "Halo" are full of hypnotic rhythms that seem to draw their energy from timeless rituals - timbres are explored, soundscapes are constantly changing. The mysterious lyrics often deal with witchcraft, foreshadowing or dreams and are used by Juana as metaphors for emotional states. Voices sometimes move away from words and meaning to be reduced to abstract phonemes and onomatopoeia. Juana's approach to music is very physical and intuitive.
Every instrument and electronic resource is an extension of their body, expressing their feelings and moods. It is magical in the oldest sense of the word: art, science and technology articulate knowledge through doing to create something that did not exist before. "Halo" was recorded in Juana Molina's home studio near Buenos Aires and in Texas. It featured Odin Schwartz and Diego Lopez de Arcaute, both of whom have played in Juana's live band for years, and Eduardo Bergallo, with guest vocals by John Dieterich of Deerhoof on several tracks.
