He calls himself Don, and Leroy Smart does indeed enjoy a great reputation in the Jamaican music community.
Born in 1952, the reggae singer and producer attended the legendary Alpha Boys School in Kingston, which has always provided the Caribbean island's music scene with talents such as Don Drummond, Tommy Mc Cook and Johnny Dizzy Moore.
Smart himself was characterized by his always somewhat aggressive singing style, which gave his melodies a special spice. His best performances date back to the mid-70s, when he was featured on some of the best riddims by Jamaica's "hitmaker", Bunny Striker Lee, such as "God Helps The Man" and "Wreck Up My Life".
Other killer hits include "Mr. Smart", "Pride And Ambition", "Bad Minded People" and the energetic "Mr. Richman".
