Dante
Thomas Adès' three-act ballet score Dante, based on Dante Alighieri's La Divina Commadia, was recorded by the Los Angeles Philharmonic and its musical and artistic director Gustavo Dudamel at Disney Hall for this premiere recording. Dante was first performed at the Royal Opera House as part of Wayne McGregor's The Dante Project for the Royal Ballet with the Royal Opera House Orchestra and with designs by visual artist Tacita Dean. "In any new list of great ballet scores by Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky, Bartók, Ravel, Prokofiev, Britten and Bernstein, Dante must be included anew for its musical invention alone," according to the Los Angeles Times. "There's not a second in the 88 minutes that doesn't thrill. Everything is unexpected and deliberate."
The limited two-LP vinyl collector's edition includes artwork by Dean and photos from the Royal Ballet performance.
