Mansun
Before The Grey Lantern
"A COMPREHENSIVE COLLECTION OF THE PRE-ATTACK OF THE GREY LANTERN ERA SINGLES & B-SIDES, RELEASED ON LP FOR THE FIRST TIME FOR RECORD STORE DAY 2023.
In 1995, Mansun signed to the legendary record label Parlophone, a home for iconic bands such as The Beatles and Radiohead, and embarked on their journey to record the seminal #1 album 'Attack Of The Grey Lantern'. This debut album not only topped the UK charts but has also secured its place as one of the classic Britpop albums of the 1990s. Originating from Chester in 1994, the band crafted and released a series of songs leading up to their debut album, which were available on CD and 7-inch vinyl. For the first time, these pre-Grey Lantern tracks are assembled in this essential collection titled 'Before The Grey Lantern'.
Among the highlights of the compilation is 'Take It Easy Chicken' (1995 Original Self Released Version), which marks Mansun's first-ever single and a song they famously performed to close their sets right up until their disbandment in 2003. The record further features standout moments from the band's One, Two, Three, Four & Five EPs, along with B-sides from the popular singles 'Stripper Vicar' and 'Wide Open Space'. These tracks capture the raw energy and creative spirit of Mansun during their early days, showcasing their evolution leading up to the transformative 'Attack Of The Grey Lantern'.
This exclusive LP is part of the Record Store Day 2023 release and is available on classic black vinyl, making it a must-have for collectors and fans alike.
Kscope, having acquired this impressive catalogue, is undertaking an extensive reissue series that will explore a treasure trove of previously unreleased audio and visual material. This includes the much-anticipated 21st-anniversary remaster of their experimental Top 10 album 'Six', which remarkably re-entered the UK charts in 2019, achieving the status of #1 Vinyl album, #5 Indie album, #12 Physical album, and #36 Album overall. Additionally, the label's reissue of 'Attack Of The Grey Lantern' reached #28 in the UK album chart, while the ultimate 25-disc box set 'Closed For Business', chronicling the band's entire career, received critical acclaim upon its release in 2020, with Record Collector describing it as a "truly monolithic collection." This ongoing journey through Mansun's discography serves not only to celebrate their legacy but also to introduce their captivating music to new audiences as they continue to resonate in the contemporary music scene."
