When revolutionaries first make a difference, it is often for the last time, because any early Passion for change in culture and society wanes with age and maturity. The late Max Roach, however, remained eager to experiment, and throughout his remarkable career as an influential jazz drummer, composer and educator new challenges.
"It's Time" is a prime example of Roach, who approached each new project with an openness to With an openness to collaborating with other artists, while at the same time asserting his own bold musical musical authority. On this unusual album, recorded in 1962 with an All-star sextet, Max is accompanied by a vocal choir led by Coleridge-Taylor Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson conducting, and there is also a solo appearance by Guest vocalist Abbey Lincoln. Max is active as composer and orchestrator on all six pieces.
