Recorded in 1955 for Prestige, Musings of Miles finds Miles Davis leading a quartet with Red Garland on piano, Oscar Pettiford on bass and Philly Joe Jones on drums. It's a relaxed, beautifully paced set that showcases his muted trumpet and gift for melody, including a fine take on 'A Night in Tunisia'. Arriving just before the formation of his first great quintet, the album captures Davis on the cusp of a major creative leap. An understated gem that rewards late-night listening and belongs in any serious jazz collection.
