Nat Birchall
World Without Form Vol 1
World Without Form" was originally only released on CD in 2012 and is now also available on vinyl for the first time due to its length - in two separate editions. Each of the two editions also contains a previously unreleased track from the recording sessions. Volume 1 features "Ithnaan", an earlier version of the track "Man From Varanasi", which was released on Nat's album "Cosmic Language". For this album, Nat added a second bassist and a percussionist to the group on some tracks, both of whom contributed to the energy and rhythmic density of the group's sound.
The core group consisted of the same musicians who traveled to Greece the following year and recorded the critically acclaimed double album "Live in Larissa" (with extended versions of four songs from "World Without Form"). Nat is joined on tenor/soprano saxophone and drums by Adam Fairhall on piano, Nick Blacka on bass, Paul Hession on drums and Corey Mwamba on vibraphone. On some tracks, Jon Thorne (bass) and / or Andy Hay (drums) strengthen the quintet and expand it to a sextet or septet.
The album impresses with its broad musical palette and covers a wide range of rhythmic concepts and moods - from lush lyricism to energetic, rousing intensity to dignified, swinging elegance.
