Nina Simone Sings the Blues, released by RCA in 1967, finds the High Priestess of Soul digging deep into the blues with raw, earthy power. Backed by a tight band, she delivers sensual, defiant and politically charged performances, including 'I Want a Little Sugar in My Bowl' and 'Backlash Blues', co-written with Langston Hughes. One of her most direct and emotionally intense records, it's essential for blues, soul and jazz collectors alike.
