The follow-up to the hugely successful Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde, Labcabincalifornia showcases the production talents of the then virtually unknown J Dilla. The first single from the album, the Dilla-produced "Drop", was a hit and the accompanying music video, which was played backwards and shot in reverse by director Spike Jonze, reinforced the group's creative reputation.

The album contains two more successful singles: "Runnin'" and "She Said". The re-release was edited under the direction of Dave Cooley (J Dilla, Madlib) at Elysian Masters.
