The Pineapple Thief
It Leads To This LP
Progressive art rock luminaries The Pineapple Thief return in 2024 with their new album "It Leads To This".
The Pineapple Thief revel in opposing forces. Muscle and fragility. Chaos and precision. Distorted introspection and warm, dreamlike vastness. The progressive quartet was founded in 1999 by Bruce Soord and experienced a rebirth in 2017 with the arrival of Gavin Harrison (King Crimson, Porcupine Tree) on drums. Completed by bassist Jon Sykes and keyboardist Steve Kitch, they have developed a lean but lush and timeless sound that can be heard on It Leads To This.
"We've been working on these new songs for almost three years. It was the most intense time I can remember with The Pineapple Thief. I was pushed far beyond my known limits, which is great from an artistic point of view but also a great challenge from a personal point of view.
The initial concept for the songs came together very quickly, but the final lyrical and musical elements took a tremendous amount of work to put together between the four of us, at least to a point where we were all satisfied. After so long in this business, the word 'satisfied' is always being pushed and constantly redefined. That's the thing, we just kept going..."
In a way, it's all like The Pineapple Thief. Idiosyncratic but understandable. Harrowing and life-affirming in the same breath. Not confined to a single genre, just melodies served by tones and textures. Music that only the four of them can make.
